Campus Safety Services
Police Department
The University Police Department has officers on duty 24 hours a day. The mission of the CSU Monterey Police Department is to protect life and property with a commitment to professionalism and community cooperation.
Security System
To ensure safety on campus, each building has card-key access controls. Without an ID card, there is no access when buildings are closed. Cameras have been placed inside the North Quad complexes, in the library and various places around campus to enhance security. This system has recently been upgraded to have better picture quality and ability to view footage for later reference. In addition, emergency blue light phones are available in locations throughout campus.
Safety in Campus Housing
Being alert and using common sense are the best ways to prevent crime from happening to you and those around you in our community. Adhering to basic crime prevention advice will help you reduce risk to yourself and also discourage those who commit a crime. The University Police Department website and Student Housing and Residential Life website have both posted tips for preventing crime and staying safe while living on campus.
Night Walk Services
We always suggest walking with friends or classmates, especially after dark, but if this isn't possible you may use "Night Walk." This program provides safe escorts anywhere on campus. Call 831-582-3573 to request these services.
Sexual Assault Prevention
Awareness and education are the most effective and meaningful ways to prevent rape. The university has posted safety guidelines on their website and offers additional support and training through the Personal Growth & Counseling Center. The Police Department provides additional training for investigators, providing escorts and offering guidelines for self-protection.
Students may also contact the Monterey Rape and Crisis Center at 831-375-HELP (4357).
Alcohol Poisoning Prevention
One in five college students doesn't drink at all and CSUMB reminds its students that drinking isn't a central part of college. Information about alcohol poisoning prevention is available in the Campus Health Center and has been posted in resident buildings. Seek medical help immediately if you suspect someone has alcohol poisoning.
Campus Health Center
The Campus Health Center provides urgent, primary, and ancillary care as well as referral services to students, faculty, staff, their dependents, and guests of the CSUMB community. The staff of medical professionals is dedicated to meeting patient needs and promoting wellness and independence.
